This is the official blog of PhilWiki Community. Our official mascot, Mingming, gives you the latest updates of our activities and related news around the Wikimedia movement.
Founded in 2015 by passionate cultural activists, the PhilWiki Community has significantly contributed to the dissemination of open educational resources. Operating from Naga City, it conducts training and outreach initiatives, empowering individuals across socio-economic backgrounds. Notable activities include various Wikipedia workshops and partnerships with educational institutions.
The Philippine Wikimedia affiliate works to ensure that knowledge is accessible to Filipinos, regardless of age, gender, language or ethnicity, by supporting and growing Wikipedia and its sister projects. It leads various activities promoting Wikimedia as open educational resources, and it also organizes training conferences for open-content contributors, partnering with educational and cultural institutions and mission-aligned organizations.
The community’s participation in international conferences further enhances collaboration, solidifying its crucial role in advancing the Wikimedia movement and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing throughout the nation.
The organization is headed by its President Maffeth Opiana Sto. Tomas, one of the incorporators of the Philippine Wikimedia Community Inc. The current Board Chair is Leah Banastao Sumalinog, a university lecturer at Central Bicol State University of Agriculture. Sto. Tomas as Sumalinog comprise the 5-member board of trustees. Joining them in the board are heritage advocate and former Naga City first lady Bernadette Florendo Roco, and educators Marife Altabano and Sheena Aiza Bagacina.
The organization has grown from three to 45 regular and associate members from Camarines Sur, Albay, Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Aklan, Cebu, Davao, and Metro Manila. It also has 60 community members from other parts of the country and overseas.
